It is not uncommon for us to receive all of the vitamins and minerals we need during a normal, balanced diet. However, what happens when you begin to eliminate food groups on Keto or any other restrictive diet? As you might imagine, you could be missing out on important vitamins and minerals throughout the day that are required to maintain optimal health. But do you need to supplement with vitamins on Keto?

While it makes sense to ensure that you are getting all of your daily vitamins and minerals from actual foods, this can be incredibly difficult while following a Ketogenic diet. And, although the Keto diet can be healthy when done correctly, it is no exception to this common problem. Once the body enters ketosis, it will begin to alter the way that the body works, and a few key supplements may be required to fill nutritional gaps. However, this does not mean that you should just reach for the nearest multivitamin in your cabinet.

What Vitamins Should You Use on Keto?

Most people will generally just think that a multivitamin is all that is needed to bridge nutritional gaps that may be present in their diet. Unfortunately, many popular multivitamin brands just don’t hit the mark because they are incomplete in many cases. When on Keto, it’s not so much that you need certain vitamins but that you need the right combination of vitamins to assist the body and further improve weight loss as a whole.

Important vitamins and minerals that should be supplemented on Keto include Potassium, Magnesium and Sodium because deficiencies may be more likely for individuals that are following a Ketogenic diet. One other supplement that should be used, unless you have a diet high in fish, is Omega-3s or Fish Oil. By supplementing with the right vitamins and minerals, you can rest easy knowing your nutritional bases are covered and you are giving your body the support it needs to be successful on Keto.
